Today I realised I skipped ardha Badda Padma paschimottan asana and tiriang! What is the proper way in a mysore studio: do you just let it go for the day or do you insert it back in when you remember? I just let it go because I felt it would rattle me more if the instructor came by and called me out Do experienced mysore Ashtangis still forget bits of the sequence ?? submitted by /u/JudgeBorn8370

You skipped Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana and Triang Mukha. The world did not end. This is worth noting.
Here's what actually matters. The sequence has an internal logic. Each pose sets up the next one. So when you skip something, you're not committing a crime — you're just missing a step in a progression. The practice still works. It just works a little differently that day.
Now, should you go back and insert them? If you realize it mid-practice and you're only a pose or two past, sure, circle back. No big deal. If you're already deep into seated and you suddenly remember — let it go. Backtracking five poses disrupts your flow more than the skip did.
As for getting called out by your teacher — a good teacher might gently redirect you. That's their job. They're not scolding you. They're helping you learn the sequence. If a teacher makes you feel ashamed for forgetting a pose, that's a them problem, not a you problem.
The count system — ashtanga.tech/study-guide/ashtanga-vinyasa-yoga-count/ — is genuinely helpful here. When you learn the vinyasa count for each posture, the sequence starts living in your body instead of your head. You forget less because it becomes rhythmic, almost musical. Your body knows what comes next even when your brain blanks.
Everyone forgets poses. I've been practicing for years and I still occasionally zone out and skip something. The practice is forgiving. Be forgiving with yourself too.
