Ashtanga Yoga: A Not-So-Linear Journey
Dear Ashtanga practitioners,
Welcome to the tangled web of Ashtanga Yoga—we promise it’s not just another fad, though you might sometimes wish it were. While you’re holding onto your breath in downward-facing dog, let’s navigate through some tidbits that might just ground you (or at least make you smile wryly) as you trot along this seemingly endless journey of self-improvement.
Structure and Discipline: Ah, the cornerstones of our practice. Like a farmer diligently tending to fields they’ll never harvest. In Ashtanga, we have the privilege or, depending on your muscle soreness, the curse of consistency. Practice six days a week they say, as if life’s other demands are mere illusions. Because, clearly, nirvana waits for no one.
The Breath: Ujjayi breath promises to be your trusty companion. It’s like whispering sweet nothings to yourself, only louder and slightly more desperate. Connect deeply with your breath, or at least try not to pass out as you perfect this art of controlled hyperventilation.
Progression: A series of postures build one upon the other, much like promises of politicians. With patience and endless perseverance, you might unlock the mysteries of the next series—like an RPG but with more sweat and less loot. The last series might feel like the elusive wholesome sequel that never comes.
Community and Lineage: This practice traces back to an ancient lineage, which essentially means you’re obligated to accept whatever arbitrary tradition is passed down without question. After all, questioning only leads to enlightenment, and we can’t have too much of that, can we?
In non-mystical short: Embrace the irony of seeking peace through struggle, and maybe, just maybe, pay a visit to our website to get a tad more serious. But why be predictable?
