Overview

In this lesson, we explore passive range holds for shoulder abduction, developing tissue tolerance and awareness at end-range positions.

Objective

Become familiar with sustained holds in abducted shoulder positions to improve adaptation and proprioceptive feedback.

What You'll Get

You'll hold your shoulder in its most abducted position using support, giving your nervous system time to accept and map the position. This builds comfort and capacity in ranges you might currently avoid because they feel unstable or unfamiliar. In practice, it means better access to overhead reaching, extended side angles, and arm-intensive flows without compensation. Professionals will use this to help clients develop neurological safety in positions they need for function but don't yet trust.
