Overview

In this lesson, we explore shoulder external rotation lift-offs, training dynamic control by actively moving the shoulder away from its most externally rotated position.

Objective

Become familiar with controlled eccentric and concentric movements that build strength at end-range external rotation.

What You'll Get

You'll actively lift your shoulder out of deep external rotation, strengthening the transition pattern most people either skip or rush through. Lift-offs give you control over the movement itself, not just the position, which is where compensations and injuries tend to happen. This translates to smoother transitions out of backbends, better control lowering from overhead positions, and less strain in repetitive external rotation movements. For professionals, it's a practical progression for clients who can access external rotation but struggle to control the movement out of it.
