Overview

In this lesson, we introduce Svarga Dvijasana (Bird of Paradise), a standing balance that demands both stability and flexibility while stretching the shoulders and hips.

Objective

Understand how to coordinate strength in the standing leg with elongation in the extended leg, developing concentration and balance in a complex bound position.

What You'll Get

You'll learn to combine hip opening with hamstring lengthening while maintaining balance and engaging your core. The pose strengthens your pelvis, glutes, and calves while requiring shoulder flexibility and focus. For your own practice, it's a challenge that builds confidence and body awareness. If you teach, you'll gain tools for helping students work toward this pose through progressions that develop the necessary strength and openness. It's about learning to balance effort with ease, finding stability in complexity, and understanding how standing work can demand both power and surrender.
