Overview

In this lesson, we introduce passive range holds for shoulder external rotation, developing tissue tolerance and neurological comfort at end-range positions.

Objective

Gain understanding of how sustained holds in externally rotated positions improve adaptation and proprioceptive awareness.

What You'll Get

You'll hold your shoulder in its most externally rotated position with support, giving your nervous system time to accept and trust the range. This builds comfort in positions that might currently feel unstable or threatening, which is often the real barrier to using external rotation. In practice, it means backbends feel safer, overhead positions are more accessible, and externally rotated movements stop triggering defensive tension. Professionals will use this to help clients develop neurological safety in ranges they technically have but don't trust enough to use.
