This is Ashtanga Yoga Tech Support. Real questions from the yoga community, answered.
Hello so I’m a 26M and life is chaos atm, lots of drinking etc. it doesn’t agree with me because I always get carried away and drink until no limits. Would like to gather some peace and was thinking about yoga. Has anyone made a similar switch in lifestyle? If so do you have any advice and what might have been helpful / challenging. Yeah. A lot of us.
Here's what happens: you start practicing in the morning. Six days a week. Same time. Same sequence. No decisions.
The practice becomes the thing you don't negotiate with. Everything else moves around it.
You'll probably still drink for a while. That's fine. But waking up hungover to do sun salutations? That'll teach you faster than any lecture.
The challenging part isn't the yoga. It's that your social life is built around drinking. You'll need to find different things to do with people. Or different people.
Start with Mysore style if you can. Someone watching you, adjusting you, saying good morning. That accountability matters when everything else is chaos.
The practice doesn't fix you. But it gives you one hour a day where you're not making it worse.
That's enough to start.

Good luck.
