This is Ashtanga Yoga Tech Support. Real questions from the yoga community, answered.
I like to practice yoga by myself as well as going to classes. I always have to refer to something for the routines though (either a video or instructor). I thought it would be nice to do yoga by myself without having to look at/listen to something – aka from my own brain, but don't know where to start in terms of routine. Any ideas for good flows to memorise? submitted by /u/izzywizzle

Yeah. Learn the Ashtanga Primary Series.
It's a set sequence. Same poses. Same order. Every time.
That's the whole point.
You learn it once, you have it forever. No more scrubbing through videos. No more "what comes next?"
Start with Surya Namaskar A and B. Five A's, three or five B's. Get those locked in first. They're your foundation.
Then add standing poses one at a time. Padangusthasana. Padahastasana. Trikonasana. Keep going.
Don't rush it. One new pose a week if you want. Or slower.
The sequence is designed to be memorized. That's not a side benefit — that's the design.
Once you know it, you're free. You can practice anywhere. Hotel room. Park. Your living room at six in the morning.
No phone. No instructor voice in your ear. Just you and the practice.
We've got a Primary Series study guide on ashtanga.tech that breaks down the whole sequence pose by pose.
Learn the map. Then you can walk it alone.
