Yoga without bending?
Absolutely — and depending on what you mean by “bending,” the answer reshapes the practice rather than cancels it. If deep spinal flexion or extension is off the table (back issue, recent surgery, a body that just doesn’t want to fold), you build around a neutral spine. There’s a whole practice there: standing work for strength and balance, gentle twists kept shallow, supported and restorative shapes where props do the bending so your joints don’t, and the entire breath-and-meditation side of yoga, which requires no shape at all. Pranayama and seated awareness are yoga in the original sense — asana was only ever the door, not the house. If by “bending” you mean you can’t get down to the floor easily, chair-based practice covers most of the range: standing or seated, you can train breath, mobility, and strength without a single deep fold. The point isn’t to force a body into postures it’s protecting itself from. It’s to find the version of practice your nervous system and joints will actually accept, and run that consistently. A practice you can keep beats a deeper one you have to quit.
