The Question

How to improve being on tip toes?

Our Response

Tiptoe balance (the squat-to-toes, prep for Bhujapidasana / Bakasana lift-offs, kneeling-to-toes transitions) is a strength problem disguised as a balance problem. You need ankle plantarflexion strength, big-toe and arch strength, and calf endurance — the foot has to hold a loaded position, not just touch it. If you can’t get there, balancing there is moot.

So train the position directly. Slow heel raises through full range, then pause and hold at the top. Progress to single-leg. Then load it: squat down onto the balls of your feet and just stay, breathing, building tolerance to that end-range. Toe strength matters more than people think — spread the toes, grip lightly, and let the arch do real work rather than collapsing. Functional Range Conditioning calls this building usable strength at end range, and that’s exactly the gap here. Balance follows capacity. Get strong in the shape and the wobble quiets down on its own.
