Is anyone else burned out from going to yoga studios and just prefers to exercise at home now?

The Question

Classes are already expensive, and then I have to pay travel costs on top of that. At my studio the classes with the good instructors are always booked up mega quick and they tend to also be scheduled in the middle of the work day (why? who is going to these classes?). It's so much simpler just to roll out the yoga mat at home and put a YouTube video on and I get similar results without having to leave my house and pay an arm and a leg for a class. Anyone else in the same boat? submit…

Our Response

Okay. Two things.

First: you're not getting similar results. You think you are. But YouTube can't see you. Can't adjust you. Can't tell you you've been doing the same thing wrong for six months.

Home practice is great. I'm all for it. But it's not a replacement for a teacher. It's what you do between seeing a teacher.

Second: yeah, scheduling is a nightmare. Studios put classes mid-day because that's when teachers are available and rent is cheaper. It sucks.

So here's what you do.

Find a Mysore program. Not a led class. Mysore. You show up in a window — usually two or three hours. Practice at your own pace. Teacher adjusts you. You come when you can. Way more flexible. Usually cheaper than class packs.

If there's truly nothing near you? Fine. Practice at home. But get eyes on you once a month minimum. Workshop. Private. Zoom session. Something.

You need feedback. Otherwise you're just rehearsing your mistakes.
