Overview

In this lesson, we present Garudasana (Eagle Pose), a standing balance that combines hip and shoulder opening with strength and focus.

Objective

Understand how to engage the entire body in a demanding balance while unlocking tension in the shoulders, upper back, outer hips, and IT band.

What You'll Get

You'll learn how to wrap your limbs in a way that broadens the sacrum and opens areas where many of us hold chronic tension. For your own practice, this pose builds strength in the standing leg and cultivates the presence required to stay balanced in complexity. If you teach, you'll gain tools for helping students access deep stabilizing muscles and stretch areas that rarely get attention in daily life. The pose chisel-tones the legs while demanding stillness and breath, making it valuable for anyone looking to combine challenge with release.

STRENGTHENS STANDING LEG WHILE DEMANDING PRESENCE

By standing on one leg, as you do in Eagle pose, you isometrically chisel and tone every muscle in the standing leg and buttock cheek… This pose demands your presence and cultivates balance, strength, and serenity. – Baron Baptiste

BALANCE, STRENGTH & STRETCHING

This pose is a combination of balance, strength, and stretching. Garudasana (Eagle pose) is great for unlocking tension in the shoulders and developing strength in the ankles. Garudasana can feel like you are tying yourself in a knot, but once you get used to it, you’ll feel its instant benefits. It builds balance, brings calmness, sharpens your focus, and helps with concentration. Learning to open the back torso is beneficial for advanced inverted poses, such as Handstand and Headstand. – YogiTimes. Garudasana / Eagle Pose
