Overview

In this lesson, we introduce Urdhva Mukha Paschimottanasana, a dynamic pose that rolls from supine to a seated forward fold while holding the feet.

Objective

Gain understanding of how to coordinate the core, legs, and breath to roll up and fold forward while maintaining the grip on the feet.

What You'll Get

What You'll Get: This pose adds momentum and coordination to the forward fold. You'll learn to use the roll to generate the energy needed to come up, then immediately fold forward while keeping the legs straight. The transition is as important as the hold. For personal practice, it trains dynamic control and teaches you to move smoothly between positions. For teachers and therapists, it's a way to see who has the core strength and flexibility to manage the transition without collapsing or jerking through the movement. You'll also learn to spot students who rely too much on momentum and need to build more control.
